“Rooted In Faith — Rising Through Service — Remembered in Legacy”
Mrs. Arminta Wood is a deeply respected elder and lifelong resident of Alexandria, Virginia, known for her advocacy, historical insight, and personal witness to the City’ of Alexandria’s evolving racial landscape. At age 94, Mrs. Wood penned a powerful op-ed in the Alexandria Times calling for racial equity and truth-telling about the City’s past. She recounted how her African American neighborhood was displaced in the 1960s to build T.C. Williams High School, a decision she described as an “economic and moral tragedy”.

PURPOSE
The celebration gathered in reverence and joy to honor some individuals whose lives have shaped our community with courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment. Each “Living Legend” celebrated is a beacon of legacy—uplifting generations through service, advocacy, and grace. Your presence here is a powerful testament to the value of remembering, recognizing, and reinvesting in the stories that define us.
FEATURED SPEAKER
It is our honor to extend our appreciation to Mr. Jay McCargo, President & CEO of ARServices, our featured guest and a distinguished major donor whose generosity has profoundly impacted Project Discovery of Alexandria (PDA) and the community.

LIVING LEGENDS
The celebration did not attempt to name every individual who has been honored as a “Living Legend of Alexandria,” nor did it offer a comprehensive list of those who deserve recognition. Instead, it serves as a heartfelt celebration of a select group of honorees acknowledged by the City of Alexandria—individuals whose lives embody excellence, service, and enduring legacy. Among them are cherished members of Oakland Baptist Church (OBC) and other pillars of our broader community.
We were honored to have attendees from various walks of life to “Celebrate Our Own Living Legends”.
